Fest for the Senses

Today’s a big day for me and JD. We just bought our tickets to Floyd Fest 11, July 26-29. We’ve been faithful attendees ever since we moved here. We had hoped to go glamping (aka glam-camping in fully tricked out yurts), but we exercised restraint and opted for the 4-day tickets, instead. I’ll worry about finagling the time off later. Those sick days are there for a reason.

If you’ve never been, this video gives a pretty good feel for the vibe. The festival is chock full of surprises, not the least of which we count among our favorites − the Virginia Folklife Workshop Porch and the Del McCoury Band performance (pictured above) we saw there last year, our discovery of Asheville-based Uncle Mountain in the 2010 Under the Radar lineup, the drumSTRONG drum circle, and just generally being immersed in progressive thought about all things sustainable with kindred spirits.

Our festival strategy this year revolves around Jackson Browne Thursday night, Punch Brothers on Saturday, and Sam Bush Band followed by Alison Krauss & Union Station on Sunday.

What’s your festival strategy?
